In response to a letter in 2011, I received a letter from Juanita, sister of James Dragotti. I have extracted portions of that letter and present it below.
He was my only sibling, we were very close. Jimmy was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in The Bronx, New York. He attended PS27 Grammer School, Clark Jr High and Dodge High School, all located in The Bronx.
You described him well, as a happy go lucky person that had a great deal of love for his family and country. He loved sports, especially playing stick ball on the streets of NYC and was a huge NY Yankee's fan. Mickey Mantle was his idol. He had many friends and was loved by all. He has since been long remembered for his sense of humor and constant practical jokes.
He enlisted in the Army and volunteered to go to Vietnam because his country was involved in a war and he was proud to serve. Vietnam took more than my brother, it took the happiness and laughter out of our home and robbed my children of an Uncle. Although over time, my children and now my grandchildren brought my parents and I much happiness and laughter, he was always still missing. My parents are gone now, I know they are finally at rest with my brother and it gives me comfort to know they are finally at peace. Juanita.
